Bespoke furniture for a child’s playroom

ToysMany parents today are choosing to dedicate one room of their house as a play space for their children; this is a room where all of their books and toys can be kept. The furniture used in this type of room will depend on the ages of the children using it, the budget and the size of the space.

For a lot of parents, the idea of creating bespoke furniture for the playroom is attractive, as they can then have the furniture pieces designed with the height and age of the children in mind; for instance, those with smaller children may opt for a low set table and chair, with rounded edges that won’t hurt the child if they bump into it. Bespoke furniture is also great for parents who want to design a fun and creative space. The sky is the limit in terms of what shape, colour and style of furniture can be created.

A playroom which is to be used by slightly older children will obviously need a different kind of furniture, for example, a sturdy table and a chair with suitable back support is a good idea. Aside from this, a reading ‘nook’ is useful; a cosy corner of the room that is solely dedicated to reading will encourage kids to pick up a book more often. Because many older children love video games and watching films, a well made bespoke entertainment centre may be needed. A seating area close to the entertainment unit could then be created.

A room for teenagers will need a slightly different set of furniture once again; in addition to an entertainment unit, if there is space, a pool table could be a fun addition to the room. A bespoke coffee table would be perfect for board games or having snacks. If the room is to be centred more around the idea of arts, crafts and other hobbies, as opposed to TV and game playing, then it will need furniture that accommodates this kind of activity. For art related activities, a wide desk would be necessary.

Regardless of what type of playroom you decide upon, you can easily make the best of the space by taking the time to furnish it according to the needs of those using it. Remember to avoid putting items such as a sofa upholstered in a luxury fabric in there (even if it does look good), as it will in inevitably get damaged by the daily rough and tumble activities of the children using it. The furniture used should be durable and of a high quality, as this is the type of furniture that will last for years. As long as you know your budget, needs and space well enough, it should be quite easy to put together a playroom that will give children hours upon hours of entertainment. Don’t forget that, along with the right furniture, a lick of bright paint on the walls can do wonders for transforming a dull room into a fun and creative space.
